Ten short films are competing in the New Breed Short
Feature category of the Cinemalaya Film Festival, which runs from July
20 to 29 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and July 21 to 29 at
Greenbelt and Trinoma.
The shorts are divided into two screening groups. Shorts A features
"Bohe: Sons of the Waves" by Nadjoua E. Bansil; "Pasahero" by Mario
Celeda; "As He Sleeps" by Sheron Dayoc; "Balintuna" ("Irony")by Emmanuel
Escalona Jr., and "Victor" by Jarell M. Serencio.Dayoc told Yahoo! Philippines OMG! that he makes short films "to explore something new in terms of content filmmaking styles" and that "making short films is a good way for me to keep the energy and the fire going." He worked on "Halaw" in 2010 and the film earned a collection of awards in the Philippines and in many festivals abroad.
Bond of marriage
Dayoc explores the bond of marriage in "As He Sleeps." Bansil, on the other hand, takes the audience with five Badjao boys to their adventures. Celeda tries to
